It'll be my first trip over there for the race or to the UK for that matter! My mate (Neil May by name) is racing an old Honda 350 and a couple of old Norton one lungers. He's been over 5 or 6 times for the race. My folks and I will be on the Isle from the 22nd to the 26th so, we won't be staying for the whole lot but that was pretty much all we could get accommodation-wise since we booked pretty late in the peice (about 5 months ago!). We didn't go for any of the group deals as we are planning to move around a bit once we get to the UK.
I'd love to catch up for a pint or two if you are keen mate. A bit of local knowledge and insight to the race proceedings and the Isle itself would be really great! Plus we could have a natter about UAVs and the like... I hope the operation is not too serious and that you are back on your feet (or hands?) again quickly. Is your cabin on the Isle also?
I live in the 'burbs in Bali but still work in Oz. I know what you mean about the SE Asians tourist trap areas though...I can't stand them myself either. Where we are, I am the token westerner and I very rarely see other white folk who don't look entirely lost! My wife and I have travelled throughout Indo, Malaysia and China also. I am a big fan of the culture around these parts. Not much to see as far as underwater photography goes around Bali. The Island is over-fished and over-populated. I have heard that the West Coast of Nusa Tenggara Barat is pretty spectacular for that kind of thing. After living on Chrstmas Island, I am pretty much ruined for any ocean-related passtimes... Now THERE is a place you should have a gander at if you get the opportunity. Simply stunning.
Let me know if or when you are free to catch up around those dates above and I will contact you when we get there. I can flick you a message on this forum if you like!
I was just having a look at some of the other members on this site and noticed that you are on the Isle of Man. I'll be up there in a couple of weeks. I'mm looking forward to seeing your part of the world. I have a mate from Sydney riding in the Classic.
Just wanted to say hi is all and I have no affiliations with this Frank Kwabena bloke who seems to be spamming everyone on the site...
Hope all is well.
