Newbie guidance

Greetings all,

JP19 is for GPS.  On the ArduPilot Mega it is for GPS as well, but on the Multipilot 2.0 the straight pin male header are so long as to not allow anything to connect to it if the OilPan is mounted.

This is the link that I have been looking at for soldering the headers:ardupilot-mega assembly

The headers on the Multipilot 2 are primarily female headers.  On the assembly diagrams on the link listed, they are male headers.  Even then for pin 2 on JP13 on my Multipilot 2.0, there isn't a female header.

OK, beyond those questions, what have folks been doing for a wiring harness for a hex, or above?

Thanks.

  • Marty,

Regarding the Oilpan header gender, I noticed the same thing. I didn't install the headers on the Oilpan until after the MP32 arrived (I am a newbie as well, who does not have the original APM), so I didn't think much about it.

Regarding the GPS header JP-19. same thing here. I removed the straight header and put (2) right angle, 2 row x 2 headers on mine. They are 90 deg apart, one set for power (GND-3V3-5V), and the other for SER4 (GPS) & SER1.  I split JP19 into two headers in order to avoid the circuit board mounting hole. This is temporary for me, as once the dust settles, I will be soldering a short gps cable (with a female connector) directly to the board.

Below are some screen shots of my board that depict JP19:

I used this MTK GPS: http://store.diydrones.com/MediaTek_MT3329_GPS_10Hz_Adapter_Basic_p.... I also bought an extra GPS cable to cut down and mount to (2) female headers - to mount the GPS to JP19 (1st picture above).

I had a challenging time finding documentation on the wires for the gps cable (which wire on the cable connector goes where). Easy enough to ring this out I guess, but here it is anyway:

MP32             Cable Wire # / Pin                 GPS Adapter Circuit Board

      JP19-2 (GND)      -----  (2)  --------------------- (GND)

      JP19-4 (5V)         -----  (5)  --------------------- (5V)

      JP19-6 (Ser4 Tx)  -----  (4)  --------------------- (IN)

      JP19-8 (Ser4 Rx)  -----  (3)  --------------------- (OUT)

Note: I ordered and received my GPS a few weeks ago (March/2011). I have not played with this, other than running the vRide0.0.3 mtk_nmea test.
